Racing History Well where do I start?? I started racing National Mini Stox in 1988. It was an ex Paul Nicholson car (of Olive & Nicholson fame), which started a friendship that lasts to this day (he was my best man at our wedding). We raced that car for 1 season on both shale and tarmac, it then became a shale car as we then bought a car from Matt Bennett (who retired due to age) for tarmac. We used that car for 1 season and then it became a shale car as we then built our own new car for tarmac. We used that for 1 season and then it became a shale car as we built another new car fir tarmac. I was lucky enough to race against the likes of:- Andy Smith, Ray Witts, Andy and Stevie Hodgson, Mark Woodhull, Billy Johnson, Stephen Cooper, Simon Rogers, Mick Sworder to name a few. In 1992 we started in F2's with an old chassis that we did a bit of work on and then raced. My first race day was at skegness followed by the trip to Boston that night. I was hooked on shale and it is still my preferred surface to this day. 1993 saw the purchase of a new HCD car after my rise to a blue top. After a great start to the season I was soon a red top. well chuffed. we raced the F2's consistently for 6 years and a couple of times held super star status for most of the season.

Towards the end of my F2 career we slowed down on the racing and only raced when we wanted to. One day in 2003 I mentioned to dad that Mark Woodhull had an F1 for sale. We knew the family from mini days so went to have a look. A deal was done and we bought the year old FWJ car from Richard Doleman (150). This car was a great car for us and we won more than I ever expected to in it. (see below). After finishing second in the semi meeting my dad talked about expectations from starting on the second row of the 'world'. Not really having a tarmac special we decided that unless it rained we would only be there to make the numbers up. Luckily I have great parents and my dad said have a word with frank (FWJ) about building a car. We did and in 6 weeks (frank actually built the chassis in 2 weeks) we had finished the car and it was on the track the meeting before the world at Northampton. Unfortunately it was not to be, I got took out on the first corner, but I had that car until I retired. After a crash at the Peter Falding Testimonial meeting which was the second occurance of a memory problem, I took the rest of the year off and we built a new shale car. The current shale car was sold to Joe Booth. We used that car again until my retirement in 2011.
2012 is a new era for me in the UK MODIFIEDS and I am relishing the challenge ahead of us.

Best Achievement Jointly
Spinning on the first bend of the 2005 Belle Vue SemiFinal and still recovering to finish second behind Andy Smith. it was a really wet day, but we were all well chuffed.
Winning the 2004 UK open at Kings Lynn. I managed to win something like 4 out of the 6 races I entered that weekend.
Best Racing Moment Having to retire from F1's, but every cloud has a silver lining and that is the UK MODIFIEDS!!
Racing Ambitions To really enjoy the racing, have loads of banter and make some good friends.
What do you love about UK Modifieds? The whole package, the acceleration, grip, sense of speed (go kart style) and the friendlyness of the people involved.

Comments / Extra As always I would like to thank my wife for her patience with all things to do with stockcars/racing. Stockcar racing is great and once bought the UK MODIFIEDS are definatley one of, if not the most cost effective forms of racing. it can certainly be run all year on a little budget for a seasons racing. If you have any questions please do hesitate to get in touch, as we can now cost effectively import a car from the USA.
